IFC Extends $150 Million Credit Line to SBI
The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has extended a $150 million credit line to State Bank of India (SBI), marking IFC’s first investment in an Indian state-owned bank. The financing is intended to support SBI’s lending activities and represents a significant step in IFC’s engagement with India’s public sector banking system.
The investment also highlights the growing role of development-finance institutions in supporting credit availability and sustainable economic growth. For SBI, access to long-term international funding can strengthen its capacity to finance eligible sectors and businesses, while the transaction underscores the importance of strong risk management, environmental and social standards and prudent deployment of institutional capital.
