Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions reached a new high in January 2025, crossing 16.99 billion in volume and Rs. 23.48 lakh crore in value, according to the Finance Ministry. The ministry noted that UPI now contributes to 80% of India’s retail digital payments, underscoring its dominance in the financial ecosystem. For the fiscal year 2023-24, UPI transactions have exceeded 131 billion in volume and Rs. 200 lakh crore in value. As of January 2025, the UPI ecosystem includes over 80 UPI apps and 641 participating banks. UPI’s user-friendly interface and wide adoption continue to drive its growth across the country.
