MP CM pushes major DCCB revival drive across state

Shivraj Singh Chouhan has launched a comprehensive revival initiative for District Central Co‑operative Banks (DCCBs) across Madhya Pradesh, aimed at strengthening the cooperative banking network and enhancing rural financial inclusion.

The Chief Minister emphasised that DCCBs play a critical role in supporting agricultural credit needs, rural savings mobilisation and local enterprise financing. However, many DCCBs have faced financial stress, governance challenges and operational weaknesses, prompting the state government to initiate a coordinated revival effort in consultation with cooperative leaders, bank officials and financial experts.

Under the initiative, measures are being introduced to improve asset quality, recapitalise distressed cooperative banks and modernise operational systems, including digital banking upgrades. Enhanced training programmes for board members and staff are also being planned to bolster governance, risk management and customer service standards.

Officials noted that strengthening DCCBs is expected to improve credit flow to farmers, small businesses and rural households, while fostering greater financial stability within the cooperative sector. The revival drive will also focus on improving compliance frameworks and risk monitoring mechanisms in line with evolving regulatory expectations.

Industry observers welcomed the state’s proactive approach, saying that revitalised DCCBs can provide an alternative banking channel that complements mainstream commercial banks and supports local economic development. Enhanced coordination with state and national cooperative federations is also planned to ensure sustainable reforms.

The initiative underscores renewed attention on cooperative finance as a pillar of rural economic resilience and grassroots credit delivery.
