GST Intelligence arrests 1 in GST scam from Nagpur

The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGSTI) arrested one person from the Nagpur in the context of issuing fake invoices to the tune of over Rs600 crore in all, enabling businesses across the country to claim wrongful input tax credit (ITC) from the GST liability.

The accused person was identified as Pawan Lal, an accountant in M/s New Age False Ceiling Pvt Limited located at Kalmeshwar in Nagpur. The directorate has released a press release stating a company director, Manoj Gupta, is at large and a search is on.

Around 400 have been arrested so far throughout the country in similar cases, with this being the first in Nagpur region of DGGSTI that covers Vidarbha, Marathwada, Nashik and Khandesh. The press release stated that the company was found to have taken fraudulent ITC to the tune of Rs4.63 crore based on 133 fake invoices.
