Axis Bank Appoints Rahul Shukla as Group Head
Axis Bank has appointed Rahul Shukla, a former senior executive at HDFC Bank, as its Group Head of Commercial and Wholesale Banking, strengthening its leadership team in the commercial and wholesale banking segment.
Shukla brings extensive banking experience, particularly in commercial banking, corporate banking and relationship management. His appointment comes as banks increasingly focus on deepening relationships with businesses while balancing credit growth with disciplined risk management.
The commercial and wholesale banking business plays a critical role in banks’ overall loan portfolios, covering large corporates, mid-sized businesses and other institutional customers. The segment also requires robust assessment of credit quality, concentration risk, sector exposures and working-capital requirements.
Shukla’s experience at HDFC Bank is expected to support Axis Bank’s efforts to strengthen its wholesale banking franchise and pursue growth opportunities across corporate and commercial customers.
The appointment comes at a time when Indian banks are navigating a changing credit environment, with deposit mobilisation, liquidity conditions and funding costs becoming increasingly important alongside loan growth.
For Axis Bank, strengthening leadership in commercial and wholesale banking could support its strategy of expanding business while maintaining focus on risk-adjusted returns, underwriting discipline and portfolio quality.
