RBI Inaugurates New Data Centre and Cybersecurity Institute in Odisha
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has inaugurated a new data centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, strengthening the central bank’s technology and cybersecurity infrastructure. The facility was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is intended to support the RBI’s growing requirements for secure data management and cyber resilience.
The new infrastructure comes as India’s financial system becomes increasingly dependent on digital platforms, real-time payments and interconnected technology systems. For the RBI, maintaining secure and resilient technology infrastructure is critical to protecting sensitive financial data and supporting the stability of the broader financial system.
The Cybersecurity Training Institute is expected to contribute to specialised capacity building by providing training and strengthening cybersecurity expertise. This is particularly relevant as banks and financial institutions face increasingly sophisticated cyber threats, including attacks on critical infrastructure, digital fraud, ransomware and technology-enabled financial crime.
The data centre is also expected to strengthen the RBI’s ability to manage and process large volumes of financial and regulatory data while supporting business continuity and operational resilience.
The initiative highlights the growing importance of cybersecurity, data governance, technology risk management and operational resilience within financial-sector supervision.
For banks and other regulated entities, the development reinforces the need to continuously strengthen cybersecurity capabilities, train specialised personnel and ensure that critical systems can withstand and recover from technology disruptions.
