Union Bank of India Recognised for Accessibility Initiatives
Union Bank of India has been recognised for its accessibility initiatives under its Union Access programme at the Stakeholder Consultation on Financial Inclusion and Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities held in Mumbai. The recognition was presented by Rajesh Aggarwal, Chief Secretary, Government of Maharashtra.
Union Access, launched in 2022, is designed to make banking services more accessible and inclusive for persons with disabilities and senior citizens. The programme covers both customer-facing services and workplace inclusion, with the bank developing accessible digital channels and assistive banking solutions.
The bank’s accessibility initiatives include Talking ATMs, the Union Sparsh Braille Debit Card, accessible internet and mobile banking, an accessible Digital Rupee application and WhatsApp-based disability support. Union Bank has also developed user guides in Braille, large-print and audio formats to support customers using assistive technologies.
The bank has received several earlier recognitions for its accessibility efforts. These include the Qorus Infosys Finacle Banking Innovation Awards 2024 Bronze Award for its Accessible Banking Programme and the NCPEDP-Mphasis Universal Design Award 2025.
The latest recognition highlights the growing importance of accessibility within financial inclusion. For banks, designing services around diverse customer needs can help reduce barriers to digital banking and promote greater independence and equal access to financial services.
