India Set to Become Global AI Back Office, Says Cognizant India Head
India is positioning itself as the AI office of the world, according to Rajesh Varrier, President of Operations at Cognizant and MD of Cognizant India. Speaking during a businessline webinar titled “Is AI taking away IT jobs?”, Varrier emphasized India’s potential to add value across the artificial intelligence (AI) spectrum—from R&D and innovation to enterprise-grade solutions. He noted that over the past two decades, India’s GDP growth has been heavily driven by technology adoption and the internet economy. “Every Fortune 2000 company depends on Indian firms for technology support,” he said, pointing out that AI is now touching every industry. While some stakeholders remain concerned about its implications, Varrier sees it as a natural evolution of tech-led growth. He added that India must continue leveraging its robust tech ecosystem and workforce to retain its leadership role in delivering global AI-powered services.
