ICICI Bank Warns Customers Against Quick Loan Scams

ICICI Bank has issued an advisory warning customers about fraudsters targeting people seeking quick or instant loans. Scammers are exploiting borrowers’ need for fast credit by offering supposedly immediate loan approvals with minimal documentation or credit checks.

According to the advisory, fraudsters may create fake loan applications and websites designed to resemble legitimate lending platforms. Potential victims are then approached through phone calls, SMS, instant messaging services, social media or online advertisements with attractive loan offers.

Once contact is established, scammers may ask borrowers to provide sensitive personal or financial information, including Aadhaar details, bank account information, passwords, dates of birth, OTPs and CVV numbers. Such information can subsequently expose customers to financial fraud and unauthorised transactions.

Another common warning sign identified by ICICI Bank is a demand for an advance fee or security deposit before the loan is disbursed. Fraudsters may create urgency by claiming that the loan offer is available only for a limited period, pressuring borrowers to transfer money quickly. After receiving the payment, the perpetrators may disappear without providing any loan.

ICICI Bank Advises Customers to Stay Alert

The bank has advised customers to exercise caution when receiving unsolicited loan offers through calls, emails or advertisements. Offers promising unusually easy approval, very little paperwork or no credit assessment should be treated with suspicion. The advisory also stresses that customers should never disclose OTPs, passwords, CVV numbers or other confidential banking credentials.

ICICI Bank has further cautioned customers against making upfront payments for purported loan disbursal and advised them to terminate communication immediately when they encounter suspicious offers.

Customers who encounter suspected online financial fraud can report it through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal or the cybercrime helpline 1930. ICICI Bank customers can also contact the bank through its official customer-support channels. Suspicious or phishing communications can additionally be reported to Sanchar Saathi and the bank’s anti-phishing channel.

The advisory highlights the growing importance of customer awareness as digital lending and online financial services expand. Verification of lenders through official channels and protection of personal banking credentials remain critical safeguards against loan-related fraud.
