Banks Report Operational Changes as AI Adoption Scales
Major global banks are beginning to report measurable changes in operations and employee productivity as artificial intelligence becomes embedded across business functions.
At Bank of America, more than 200,000 employees are using AI-enabled capabilities, including productivity tools, coding assistance and agentic workflows. Employees are generating more than 400,000 AI prompts daily. The bank has over 300 approved AI use cases, including 114 generative AI applications, with 34 already fully implemented.
AI tools are now being used across operations, risk, finance, technology and customer-facing functions. The bank says these applications are helping reduce manual work, improve speed and increase consistency in client service.
At Citigroup, CEO Jane Fraser said nearly 9 out of 10 employees are using the bank’s AI tools. Citi is using AI to improve productivity, enhance customer experience and shorten the time required to bring products to market.
JPMorgan Chase has nearly 1,000 live AI use cases covering areas including risk management, fraud detection, marketing and document processing. CEO Jamie Dimon, however, cautioned that AI remains expensive and may not immediately translate into higher margins as deployment expands.
Wells Fargo has also launched its AI Teammate platform, while BNY is using AI to improve employee productivity, product development and client experiences.
The developments show that large banks are moving beyond AI experimentation towards enterprise-wide operational adoption. The focus is increasingly on embedding AI into existing workflows while demonstrating tangible benefits in productivity, service quality and decision-making.
