Banks Asked to Strengthen Security Ahead of September 28 Strike

The Ministry of Finance has asked banks to heighten security arrangements ahead of the nationwide bank strike scheduled from September 28, 2026. The request comes as employee organisations prepare for industrial action, with the government seeking adequate security and continuity arrangements at bank branches and other critical banking locations.

The Finance Ministry’s request places emphasis on maintaining security of banking premises, cash, records, technology infrastructure and other assets during the strike period. Banks may need to coordinate with local authorities and review branch-level security arrangements, particularly at locations handling significant cash volumes or critical operational functions. The development is also relevant to business-continuity planning because industrial action can affect normal staffing and customer-service operations across the banking network.

The situation highlights the importance of operational resilience and contingency planning during periods of workforce disruption. Banks need to identify critical functions, maintain appropriate security coverage and ensure that essential systems and services remain protected. The September 28 strike will therefore test not only banks’ labour and operational arrangements but also their ability to maintain security and continuity during a coordinated nationwide disruption.
