Bank of Maharashtra Q1 Profit Rises 27%

Bank of Maharashtra reported a 27% year-on-year increase in net profit to ₹2,020 crore for the first quarter of the current financial year. The public sector lender had posted a net profit of ₹1,593 crore during the corresponding period of the previous year.

The bank’s total income increased to ₹9,063 crore, compared with ₹7,879 crore in the same quarter last year. Interest income also rose to ₹8,037 crore from ₹7,054 crore in the June quarter of FY26.

Asset quality improved during the quarter. Gross non-performing assets declined to 1.45% of gross advances, compared with 1.74% a year earlier. Net NPAs fell to 0.13%, from 0.18% in the corresponding period.

The reduction in bad loans, combined with higher income, supported the bank’s profitability. However, its capital adequacy ratio declined to 18.64%, compared with 20.06% in the period cited by the report.

Bank of Maharashtra’s shares also gained after the quarterly performance. The stock touched an intraday high of ₹87.46 and stood at ₹84 on July 10, representing a gain of 2.43% during the session.

The results indicate continued improvement in the bank’s earnings and loan-book quality. Maintaining credit growth, managing funding costs and preserving adequate capital will remain important for sustaining performance in the coming quarters.
