The campus of Bankers’ Institute of Rural Development (BIRD) in Mangaluru plans to meet most of its energy requirements from solar energy in the next few. BIRD is a training institute of NABARD.
K Lakshminarayanan, Joint Director of BIRD-Mangaluru, informed that the institute has decided to go solar this fiscal to meet its energy requirements. A 90 kw solar power plant will be established in the campus in four-five months, he added. The proposed plant will help meet around 75 per cent of the net energy demand of the campus, which currently pays around Rs1.5 lakh a month as power bill.
