Maharashtra waives off few farmer loans
Maharashtra government recently announced a sweeping farm debt-waiver, along with certain conditions to ensure that the scheme benefits only marginal farmers and “genuine farmers” who have been paying off their loans.
Farm leaders said that they were calling off protests that have been running since 1 June with immediate effect. However, they warned that if their demands are not met by 25 July, they “will resort to an even more powerful protest”.
